Smartphone Documentary Video Production
(POSTPONED, NEW DATES TBA)
Would you like to learn how to make a short documentary? Are you making instructional videos for YouTube? Do you want to make an awe-inspiring documentary of your recent trip to a faraway destination? This workshop will teach you how to do it, creatively, effectively, and most important, in a way your audiences will remember.
All with your smartphone, a powerful high-quality camera you always have with you.
The smartphone is a tool that, with a little knowledge and practice, can be used just as effectively as an expensive DSLR or camcorder. As in all communicative arts, the story and idea is more important than the tool. Both are necessary, of course, and you undoubtedly have plenty of ideas. This workshop will how to those ideas into reality using your iPhone or Android.
This week-long workshop, held at a charming B&B in historic Woodstock NY, is an in-depth look at a wide variety of easily learned skills, like how to control exposure and focus like professional cinematographers, how to storyboard and plan a project for maximum impact, discover the way to put it all together by interviewing and capturing sound bites. And finally, how to put it together through editing.
Subjects covered include accessory equipment, idea generation, project planning, real-time camera practices, interviewing, B-Roll acquisition, bridge writing, music selection, and finishing by rough cut and final editing.
You will, if you like, emerge from the workshop with a two or three minute video, like So Many Balloons, which was done for a camera club. Or you may just want to sit back and learn, soaking up the experiences of industry professionals. In either case, have fun while learning and practicing.
