When we look at the world through rose colored glasses, we perceive differently. Photography, cinematography, digital enhancement, and art in all senses of the world, are means to choose how and what we want to see. When Walker Evans, one of the most notable dust-bowl era photographers, was asked “Does the camera ever lie?” His answer was unquestionably honest. “Of course. It almost always does.”
The camera that lies can do other things. The camera that lies can also tell the truth. Or, the camera that lies can show both sides of the truth. Or perhaps the camera that lies does so by grabbing at our heart. Honestly. Or not.
